Sony STRDH520 7.1 Channel 3D AV Receiver (Black)For ages, I’d been looking for the perfect receiver to enhance my sound system. I have 3D TV, a nice set of Bose speakers and a Blu-Ray player. But even with these fancy pants, it was a bummer to not be able to take full advantage of its capabilities. That is, until I bought the Sony STR-DH520 7.1.

If there’s one thing certain about Sony, it’s the fact that they always deliver. I’ve owned Sony’s older products in the past. I had a 5.1 receiver as well. And they’ve all served me faithfully. But my new TV demands a new receiver. And boy did it perform! Yes, the Sony STR-DH520 definitely performs really well.

The Setup

Setting up the player was a breeze. The instructions on the manual are dead simple to understand and follow. And this is coming from a confessed non-tech genius.

Minimal Wiring – Really Cool!

Sony STR-DH520 ReviewWhat stunned me most was the minimal wiring required. Can you believe it? You only need one HDMI cable running to the TV. That’s the honest to God truth. It’s also compatible with my Bose speakers (I’m guessing it works with anything good). And for those who don’t know… Bose speakers are really top notch. The dynamism is, for me, unparalleled. So with the receiver on my side, I could actually take full advantage of them.

Audio

The audio is crystal clear. It’d make you think you’re at the theatres. In a nutshell, this lets you hear exactly how a movie should sound like. No detail’s is left to throw. Based on my experience (it’s been about 5 months), the Sony STR-DH520 has been able to decode practically every audio format you could think of. Including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. -> Read what other customers are saying  – CLICK HERE

It Is Easy To Customize Every Little Aspect Of Your Speaker Set Up!

You can even customise every little aspect of your speaker set up. Here’s a quickie list. You can play around with its patterns. You can adjust the tone to your liking. You can tinker with the equaliser to get it just the way you want it. There’s the audio/video synchronisation option. If it’s a late night movie, you can switch it to the midnight mode. Hell, you can even adjust it to fit your speaker’s size (so it doesn’t blow up). What else? It even detects how many speakers you’ve plugged in, just so it doesn’t blow the glass out of the window. Basically, you can do just about anything you could possibly think of.

Sound Fields

The Sony STR-DH520 also supports an array of different sound fields. There’s HD-D.C.S, neo:6 and the various PL’s. It can even operate up to the 7.1 dts-HAD Master Audio and 3D… And you know why? Because it has 4 HDMI inputs. It’s probably why a friend of mine recommended it to me.

Now this has to be one of the coolest parts. The Bravia sync allows me to use just one remote control for my TV, Blu-Ray player and receiver. So if I misplaced one of them, who cares?

Review Conclusion

At a modest $200 price range, this has to be the best model around. Unless of course you’re someone with a football field for a living room. Now that might require something more extravagant. But otherwise, if you want a close to perfect home theatre experience, than the Sony STR-DH520 is well worth it. I’d give it a 5/5 rating any day of the week.
